The Lighthouse
A brand system for founders' first true believers, before traction, headlines, or hype.
Key wins
A brand system earns no traction number of its own. The win is what got built and shipped: the fund's whole public face, from the mark to the guidelines.
- 1 mark
- 3 registers
- Full system
The idea
A full brand system for a pre-seed fund that backs founders before they have traction.
Core belief, geometry, voice and photography direction, designed and directed solo.
Everything in the system is built around a bolt: the instant a spark of conviction becomes a decision, drawn on a strict 90-degree grid so it reads as disciplined pattern recognition.
The same discipline carries into the voice. One root, warm, conversational, curious and unpolished, tuned into three registers: direct for founders, grounded for LPs, loose for the room itself.
And photography reinforces it: film over digital, candid, warm-lit, low saturation, so every image looks like a moment from the room.

The problem
Pre-seed is the least reassuring stage of venture: no traction, no headline, no round to validate the bet. It is the moment a founder needs a believer, and most funds show up looking like a firm, with a serious wordmark, a navy deck and language borrowed from the LP side of the table.
The Lighthouse exists to back founders before the traction, the headlines or the hype. That promise lived as a sentence. The brand had to make it something a founder could feel walking into a room or opening a deck.
Your first true believers, before traction, headlines, or hype.
The challenge
Look like every other fund and you are forgettable. Lean too hard into “we're not like other funds” and the brand reads as a party, and the LPs writing the checks stop taking the numbers seriously.
The brief was to hold both registers at once: warm and direct for the founder in the room, grounded and confident for the LP evaluating the fund, and one brand underneath both.
What I did
Solo, end to end: the core belief and positioning, the bolt and its grid, the logotype system, color and typography, the voice and its three registers, the photography direction, and the expressions that put it all to work, assembled into the guidelines that now carry the fund's public face.
The guidelines are structured the way the thinking was. The light is what drives the brand: the belief, the geometry, the mark. The house is what holds it: the voice, the tone, the photography, the expressions.

The room
Photography does more work here than most guidelines ask of it. Candid over posed, shallow focus, the odd motion blur left in. Every reference reads as a moment someone was in.

The expressions are where the belief gets said out loud. The bolt becomes a mask for a real photograph, holding the line that names the whole strategy: this isn't a networking event, it's the room you want to be in. A manifesto spread runs founders over everything across two frames. And the guidelines close on Roosevelt's man in the arena, the standard for who The Lighthouse backs.

The guidelines shipped and now carry the fund's public face at lt.house.
The Lighthouse is live and investing, and the brand system is in use.
